Personalized Baby Blankets

I used to have a hard time deciding on gifts whenever I had a baby shower to attend. Then I started a tradition of making a crocheted baby blanket for all the new babies in my family. Each blanket is unique, in that I make choices on how I can personalize the blanket.

I have several different books on baby crochet patterns. I don’t think I’ve ever used the same pattern twice! Each blanket I crochet is made with yarn to match the baby’s nursery. If I’m using a pattern that doesn’t include more than one yarn color, I will sometimes use a multi-color yarn to brighten it up a little bit.

There are other ways of making the baby blanket unique. Sometimes I’ll weave ribbon between the stitches near the border, and finish it off with a bow. Other times I’ll make bows from ribbon and fasten them securely to blanket in the corners with a needle thread.

For one baby shower, I crocheted a blanket using a simple pattern. Then I bought some pacifiers, baby bibs, booties, and rattles, and I attached them to the blanket using ribbon. I made sure they were secured in a way that would make it easy to remove the smaller gifts without damaging the blanket. It turned out really cute!
